Switzerland is one of the European countries where the otter population has disappeared during the last century. As otter populations are recently recovering in many European countries the natural re-colonisation of the territory of Switzerland becomes possible. However the potential of migration is limited by high Alps isolating different catchments and high habitat degradation of rivers flowing out of Switzerland. The goal of the project is: based on the presence/absence survey of the areas bordering with Switzerland to evaluate possibilities and directions of natural re-colonising of Switzerland by otters.
